September 11, 2024 – at Army Navy Country Club (Fairfax Course), Fairfax, VA.  Congratulations to the Dominion Valley Country Club Senior Golf League (SGL) team on winning the 2024 league championship over 4-time champion Loudoun Golf and Country Club in a nail-biter finish with a score of 5 to 4!

The SGL finals match was held at Army Navy CC (Fairfax Course) as a neutral site to minimize the home course advantage for both teams.  The contest consists of three 4-ball matches played at scratch (no handicaps) using a Nassau point format — one point for winning the front nine, one point for winning the back nine, and one point for winning the 18.

Dominion Valley has steadily climbed into relevance since the 2020 season when it ranked last in the league with a 1-13-0 record, finished the 2021 season ranked 7th overall, finished the 2022 season ranked 6th overall, and finished last year (2023) tied for 2nd in the league overall standings only to lose in the semifinals to Army Navy.  In 2024 they earned the 1st place in the American Conference (tied with Trump National) with an 11-3-0 record and were the #2 seed in the playoffs.  They reached the finals match by winning a sudden-death playoff over International CC in the quarterfinals, and then defeated #3 seed Springfield G&CC 6.5-2.5 in the semifinals.

Perennial powerhouse Loudoun, the playoffs #1 seed with an 11-1-0 record, had won the league championship the last two years (2022 and 2023) and were gunning for a three-peat.  They reached the finals match by defeating #8 seed Piedmont 6.5-2.5 in the quarterfinals and defeating #4 seed Trump National 6-3 in the semifinals.
