Walker-Vigotsy Win Northern Virginia Senior 4-Ball
August 3, 2015

Last year at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Laurel Hill’s Eddie Walker and John “Boney” Hoffman were one of six teams which played off for the Northern Viginia Senior Four Ball championship, eventually losing on the fifth extra hole. This year Hoffman teamed with long-time playing partner Wes Lovelace from their days at Evergrren CC, so Walker teamed with a long-time friend from their days at Chantilly National, Tim Vigotsky, now a member at RTJ. The Army Navy CC Fairfax layout proved to be a good match for the Walker – Vigotsky pairing as they edged out three other teams to win this year’s title by one shot. Playing the Red and White nines, Vigotsky got things going on their second hole of the shotgun start – a birdie at the Red’s par 3 ninth. Another Vigotsky birdie at the White’s par 4 ninth set up what Vigotsky called the key hole their round – a 10-foot par save by Walker on their 13th hole. Another Vigotsky birdie at their 14th hole put them at 3 under followed by his fourth birdie of the day on the Red’s par five sixth hole – their 17th hole of the day. Walker then made a 3 1/2 foot birdie putt on their final hole for a 5-under 67 which proved to be the difference as three other teams shot 4-under 68s: Harry Thomas- Bill Stout (Washington Golf), Dayton Slater – Mike Nicewarner (Shenandoah Valley), and Alan Tinder – Trey Carson (Army Navy). Two teams tied for fifth with 69 – Peter Jacobi (Army Navy) – Tom Flory (Green Hills Club) and Doug Banks – Gary Honey (Trump National).

The Northern Sections would like to thank the Army Navy Country Club, Director of Golf Greg Scott, PGA, Fairfax Head Professional Keith Beaver and their staff for their hospitality and support.
