28 September 2021 at The Piedmont Club, Haymarket, VA —  Congratulations to Mike Howell and Dave LeClere (International CC) for winning the 2021 Northern Virginia Senior 4-ball championship!  Mike Howell is having a great year!  Not only did he win the 2021 Northern Virginia Senior Amateur Championship at Belle Haven Country Club in June, but he also paired up with his fellow club-mate Dave LeClere from International CC to win the 2021 Northern Virginia Senior 4-ball Championship with a score of 5-under par 67.  Dave LeClere is now a 5-time Senior 4-ball Co-Champion having won it with his former-partner John Price four years in a row from 2006 through 2009.  Twelve years later Dave is back in the winner’s circle with Mike as his partner.

Dave and Mike began the day in the shotgun start on the 17th hole.  After starting with pars on 17 and 18, they turned to the front nine and Mike birdied #2 and #4 to put the team at 2-under par only to fall back to even par after the team made a double-bogey on the par 4 9th hole.

It seemed nothing much was happening with the team at even par through their first 11 holes.  But something must have clicked after turning to the back nine as Dave and Mike caught fire and birdied 5 of their last 7 holes with Mike making birdies on 10, 11, 14 and 15 with Dave adding a birdie on #12.  Their 5-under par 67 put them 2 strokes in front of the 2nd place team in the Senior Division of Bill Apple (Lansdowne) and Dean Griffith (Blue Ridge Shadows) with a 3-under par 69.

There was a 5-way tie for 3rd place at 1-under par 72 with the teams of Kevin Seekford and Frank O’Hara (Trump National); Bill Takis (River Bend) and David Price (Stoneleigh); Paul Gural (International) and Dick Thomas (Washington Golf); Sam Bailey (Stonewall) and Craig Lund (Laurel Hill GC); and Scott McNabb and Duncan Puller (Lansdowne).

There were 7 teams in the Super-Senior Division (age 65+) with Dave Prokop and David Maurstad (Evergreen CC) shooting a best-of-the-field 7-under par 65.  Dave had birdies on #2, 3, 11 and 18 while David added birdies on #5, 7 and 13.  Their card was perfect with no bogeys on the day.

Steve Fay and Harry Thomas (Washington Golf) finished 2nd in the Super-Seniors with a 5-under par 67.  There was a 4-way tie for 3rd place at 3-under par with the teams of Mark Boedicker and Peter Hill (RTJGC); Sam Ball and Paul Diehl (Loudoun); Mike Nicewarner and Joe Wallenfelsz (Blue Ridge Shadows); and Cal Coolidge (Blue Ridge Shadows) and Dwight Holman (Piedmont).

Of note — all 7 teams in the Super-Senior division finished under par.

There were only two teams in the Legends division (age 70+) this year with Lynn Wessman and Peter Jacobi winning that division.
