Tee times, pairings and brackets for the 2024 NVGA match play tournament 3-4 June at The Piedmont Club are now available at the links below:

Tee times for Amateur Division:  2024 Match Play Amateur division bracket

Tee times for Seniors Division:  2024 NVGA match play seniors bracket

Tee times for Super-Senior Division:  2024 NVGA match play super- seniors bracket

To find your tee time, open the attachment for your division and you find the time next to your name.  For the morning matches, the Amateur division and Senior division will tee off on hole #1;  Super-seniors will tee off on hole #10.

Each tee time consists of a foursome which represents ¼ of the bracket Seniors and Super-seniors, or ½ of the bracket for Amateurs.  For example, in the Seniors Division the 9:20 am tee time has the #1 seed playing the #16 seed, and the #8 seed playing the #9 seed.  The winners of those matches in the morning will play each other in the afternoon.  The losers of the morning matches will play each other in the afternoon match for a consolation prize ($50 gift certificate).  You will play with the same people in your foursome in both the morning and afternoon but playing another opponent.  For example, if #1 and #8 win their morning matches, then in the afternoon they will play each other to determine who advances to the semi-finals on Tuesday, and #9 and #16 play the consolation match.  In each foursome one player will win 2 matches and advance to play on Tuesday (semi-finals for Seniors and Super-Seniors, finals for Amateurs with a bracket of 8 players); 2 players will win either a morning or afternoon match and win a $50 gift certificate; and one player will lose twice but have a good time with camaraderie and fun competition.  😊

The seeding was done using handicap index, VSGA ranking points, and some minor adjustments so that players from the same club do not play each other in the first round.  Where possible we tried to arrange the foursomes with players from different clubs.

Our group of 40 will be the only players on the course on Monday, so when the morning matches are completed (including any sudden-death playoffs if a match ends in a tie on the 18th hole), the foursome may take a short break for lunch or commence their afternoon matches when all four players are ready.  If your group started on the front nine in the morning you will start on the back nine in the afternoon (and vice versa).  Please coordinate with the other members of your group and agree on a time to begin your afternoon matches.

Amateurs will play from the member (Blue) tees at about 6500 yards; Seniors from the Blue/White comb tees at about 6200 yards; Super-Seniors from the White tees at about 6000 yards.

Tee times on Tuesday will be in 2-somes for the semi-finals (or finals matches) beginning at 8:20 am (5 tee times approximately 8:20, 8:30, 8:40, 8:50, and 9:00).  The semi-finals matches for seniors and super-seniors are elimination matches with only the winners advancing to the finals matches (no consolation matches on Tuesday).

Now is a good time to refresh on some of the subtle differences between match play and stroke play.  For example, if a player tees off from the wrong teeing ground, there is no penalty (unlike in stroke play); however, the opponent may require the player that hit from the wrong teeing ground to re-tee from the correct place.

The entry fee includes carts, practice on the range, and prizes including play on Tuesday for those who advance to the semi-finals (seniors and super-seniors) or finals (amateurs).

Scorecards are recommended but ultimately the competitors are responsible for reporting the winner and results of the match (e.g. 4&3, 3&1, 1-up, in 20 holes, etc.).
