A field of 42 teams, 32 in the Senior Division (age 55+), 6 in the Super-Senior Division (age 65+) and 4 in the Legends Division (age 70+) began the day at 8:30 AM under clear skies and very warm conditions on the superbly conditioned RTJ Club course in the 25th annual Northern Virginia Senior 4-ball.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t cooperate today and by 2:30 PM a very strong thunderstorm swept across the lake drenching the course and causing a rain delay until about 4:00 PM.  Play was resumed for about an hour when another line of storms swept in and play was halted for a second time.  With no chance of play resuming due to the volume and number of storms overhead, the tournament committee had no choice but to shorten the competition to the nine holes of the front nine based on where the last teams to tee off had finished when play was halted.

In the Senior / Open Division, Lombardozzi and Hill carded a 2-under par 34 on the front nine tying defending champions Rich Buckner (RTJ Club) and Ron Clatterbuck (Evergreen Country Club).  All ties in the event this year were broken using the USGA scorecard playoff method (last 9, last 6, last 3, last hole, coin toss) and Lombardozzi and Hill were determined the winners.

In the Super-Senior Division, Cal Coolidge (Blue Ridge Shadows) and Dwight Holman carded a 1-under par 35 to tie Harry Thomas (Washington Golf & CC) and Leon Roday (Kinloch Golf Club) with Coolidge & Holman wining in a scorecard playoff.

In the Legends Division, John Casstevens (The Federal Club) and Tom Vogt (The Dominion Club) won with a 2-under par 34 on the front, 1 shot ahead of Ron Cornelison (RTJ Club) and Roger Pitkin (Army Navy CC).

Four teams were disqualified for continuing play after the storm warning siren had sounded and play stopped.  All players are reminded as stated in the Notice to Competitors:  Discontinuance of Play:  When play is suspended for a dangerous situation, players must discontinue play immediately.  Players must not resume play until the Committee has ordered resumption of play.  All practice areas shall be closed until the Committee has declared them open.  Penalty for breach of rule – Disqualification.

The results of the full field and the skins game are posted.  Results  Skins  Scorecards may be viewed using the Golf Genius website / application using the GGID:  GJEQAF.

Gift certificates for pro shop merchandise and skins proceeds will be mailed to the winners.
