2018 will see two changes in the Northern Sections Tournament Committee which conducts the four Northern Virginia Championships, the Northern Virginia A-Team matches and the Potomac Challenge (along with the Maryland Free-State Seniors). In addition, the committee is responsible for the Northern Sections website, www.VSGANE.com.

Mark Boedicker has graciously volunteered to serve as the Northern Sections Seniors Chairman, replacing Don Jeanes, who served in that position from 2013 through 2017. During Don’s five years as chairman, he, and assistant Lynn Wessman, added a super-senior division to the Senior Amateur, secured excellent playing venues, including RTJ for the 2014 Senior 4-Ball, and conducted the championships in a highly professional manner. His efforts have been greatly appreciated by the Committee and the participants. Mark is well known to the Northern Virginia golfing community, having been a top amateur for several years, and most recently as a senior, winning the Senior 4-Ball with Mark Rallas in 2014. Boedicker brings excellent administrative skills to the position as Chairman, complimenting his local knowledge of Northern Virginia golf and a real passion and respect for the game. Lynn will continue in his role as assistant, ensuring a smooth transition. Many thanks to Lynn.

Mark Rallas will assume the duties as Webmaster of the VSGANE website, taking over for Don Jenkins. Like his playing partner, Mark Boedicker, Rallas has been an excellent amateur in Northern Virginia for many years and is very familiar with the Championships and the players which the website covers. Mark and Don will be going through the transition in the coming weeks prior to the start of the 2018 golfing season.

Personal Note: As webmaster, amateur “reporter” and sometimes participant for the past 10 years, I would like to thank the Committee, and especially the golfers, for the opportunity to give back to Northern Virginia golf, which I have been a part of since 1969. The encouragement you have given me from the beginning (when I knew nothing about “websites”), and the fulfillment of my “pipedream” of a scientific nerd writing articles about golf has been more than I could have expected. The reception you have given me at tournaments, your kind words and positive feedback have been greatly appreciated. I would encourage all of those who love Northern Virginia to consider using whatever unique talent you have to consider helping in the conduct of these tournaments, no matter how small. It would be a benefit to those running each event (often a staff of one or two) and would provide you with an opportunity to give back to this community as well. – Don Jenkins
